Deputy PM holds talks with newly elected Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council leadership
Addis Ababa, September 15, 2025 (FMC) – Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh has lauded the successful conclusion of the recent Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council elections, describing the process as a model of peaceful, democratic, and participatory practice.
He held discussions today at the National Palace with the new leadership of the Council, headed by its President, Sheikh Haji Ibrahim Tuffa.
The talks reflected the government’s recognition of the Muslim community and the Council’s leadership for their role in ensuring that the elections were conducted in an orderly and credible manner.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the elections provided an important lesson in advancing democratic culture in Ethiopia.
He also reaffirmed that the government would continue to work in close collaboration with the Council’s leadership on national issues, while providing the necessary support to strengthen the institution’s effective functioning.
He further conveyed his best wishes to the Council’s new leaders, expressing confidence in their ability to serve the community with commitment in the years ahead.
