Deputy PM Temesgen Truneh Commends Awi Community Values and Timeless Horsemanship at 86th Festival
Addis Ababa, January 31, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh today praised the values, heritage, and horsemanship of the Awi people during the 86th annual Agew Equestrian Festival in Injibara, the capital of the Awi Nationality Administrative Zone.
Temesgen highlighted the festival as “a powerful symbol of Awi courage, culture, and spirit,” emphasizing that the event showcases horsemanship that tells “a timeless story of bravery, tradition, and pride passed faithfully from one generation to the next.”
He described Injibara as “a land shaped by heroes and sustained by goodness, unity, and love,” praising the people for their hospitality and the traditional greeting “Adinas,” which honors guests as a divine gift and reflects an enduring culture of compassion and respect.
The festival, now in its 86th year, remains a cornerstone of the Awi community’s cultural heritage, drawing participants and spectators from across the region to celebrate Ethiopia’s rich equestrian traditions.
