Diplomatic community and int’l organization representatives visit tourist destinations in Harar and Dire Dawa

Addis Ababa, November 28, 2025 (FMC) – Members of the diplomatic community and representatives of international organizations based in Addis Ababa have traveled to eastern Ethiopia to explore the historic cities of Harar and Dire Dawa.

The visit, organized by Ethiopia’s Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), aims to showcase the region’s rich tourism potential.

The delegation, led by Minister of Tourism Selamwit Kassa, was welcomed in Dire Dawa by Mayor Kedir Juhar and other city officials. Participating members include Ms. Rita Bissoonauth, Director of the UNESCO Liaison Office in Addis Ababa and UNESCO Representative to Ethiopia, alongside senior diplomats.

Minister Selamwit Kassa said the program brings together more than 40 ambassadors and leaders of international organizations.

She noted that the delegation is visiting natural, cultural, and historical sites, along with new destinations that contribute significantly to the development of the tourism sector.

She further highlighted that the itinerary includes value-added attractions and corridor development projects, emphasizing the potential of these initiatives to strengthen regional tourism and economic opportunities.

In addition to exploring the tourist sites, discussions on investment and cooperation opportunities are expected to take place during the visit.

The two-day trip to the UNESCO World Heritage city of Harar and the historic city of Dire Dawa is expected to significantly contribute to the effective utilization of the region’s tourism resources, officials noted.
