Diplomats from Global South Countries Discuss Humanitarian Cooperation within BRICS
Addis Ababa, December 18, 2025 (FMC) – Diplomats from BRICS member and partner countries gathered in Moscow for a ceremonial evening marking the conclusion of Brazil’s chairmanship of BRICS, with discussions focusing on strengthening humanitarian cooperation and intercultural dialogue among Global South nations.
The event, held at the Reception House of the M. I. It was organised by the Embassy of Brazil in Russia, the TV BRICS International Media Network, and the Library for Foreign Literature.
Brazil’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Russia, Sergio Rodrigues dos Santos, outlined key outcomes of Brazil’s BRICS chairmanship, conducted under the motto “Strengthening cooperation among Global South countries for more inclusive and sustainable governance.” He said Brazil built on the achievements of the 2024 Russian chairmanship and launched initiatives aimed at promoting concrete international cooperation.
Among the major outcomes, the ambassador cited efforts to deepen economic and financial cooperation through the use of local currencies, initiatives addressing priority issues of the Global South, and the adoption of key documents at the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, including the Declaration on Artificial Intelligence Governance and the Framework Declaration on Climate Finance. He also noted the implementation of criteria for BRICS partner countries, a category established at the 2024 Kazan Summit.
Ambassador dos Santos further highlighted the role of the BRICS+ Information and Cultural Media Centre, a joint initiative of the Library for Foreign Literature and TV BRICS, in promoting cultural exchange. Marking its first anniversary, he said the centre has significantly contributed to strengthening cultural ties and people-to-people connections among BRICS and partner countries.
Vice-Director of the Library for Foreign Literature Miguel Palacios presented the library’s projects aimed at promoting Brazilian culture and Russian-Brazilian cooperation, noting that its collections include more than 3,000 books on Brazil in 21 languages.
General Director of the Library Marina Zakharenko stressed the importance of engaging young people in BRICS cooperation, describing youth as both the present and future drivers of international dialogue.
CEO of TV BRICS Janna Tolstikova underscored that humanitarian ties form the foundation of cooperation across all sectors and reaffirmed the network’s readiness to support India during its BRICS chairmanship in 2026.
The event concluded with a concert by the Brazilian music group Choro de Bola, as reported by TV BRICS.
During Brazil’s BRICS chairmanship in 2025, TV BRICS provided extensive information support, producing around 200 original materials in 11 languages and distributing them through leading media outlets in 18 countries. Cooperation was also strengthened in the media, education, and cultural sectors through agreements with Brazilian institutions and joint international projects.
