Dire Dawa’s Emerta Library to Serve Thousands with Modern Facilities
Addis Ababa, March 9, 2026 (FMC) — The Emerta Library in Dire Dawa is designed to serve thousands of residents with modern reading and study facilities, funded through proceeds from the sale of the book Medemer by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, the Office of the Prime Minister reported.
The library spans more than 1,000 square meters and features modern infrastructure across three floors, including a terrace that allows users to read and access library services while enjoying the city’s climate.
The facility includes a Braille reading section, an IT center for users with special needs, outdoor reading areas, private and group study rooms, and a conference hall.
According to the PM’s Office, the library can accommodate up to 1,000 people at a time, and its bookshelves have the capacity to hold up to 1 million volumes.
Images from the PM Office’s social media posts show that the Prime Minister personally observed the newly constructed library in the city this morning.
