EDR streamlines online cargo booking system in push toward fully digital corridor

Addis Ababa, March 10, 2026 (FMC) – The Ethio-Djibouti Railway S.C. (EDR) has streamlined its online booking system for both unimodal and multimodal cargo services as part of efforts to advance digital transformation along the Ethiopia–Djibouti transport corridor.

CEO of EDR, Takele Uma, announced the development today, stating that the upgrade marks a significant step toward establishing a fully digital logistics corridor.

According to the CEO, all import and export cargoes handled through the railway are now processed via EDR’s digital online platform, replacing previous procedures and improving operational efficiency.

The upgraded system also integrates secure online payment services and authentication verification, enabling clients to complete transactions and confirm cargo processing digitally.

Takele noted that the digital transition significantly improves cargo trackability and traceability in real time, allowing customers to monitor shipments more effectively throughout the logistics chain.

It has been learned that the move forms part of the railway’s broader effort to modernize services and enhance the reliability and transparency of cargo operations along the Ethiopia–Djibouti trade corridor.
