Eleventh Tana Forum Highlights Ethiopia’s Leadership in African Peace and Security

Addis Ababa, October 24, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) emphasized that the eleventh Tana Forum provides a key opportunity to reaffirm the country’s significant role in promoting peace and security across Africa.

Ambassador Nebiat Getachew, MFA Spokesperson, told FMC that the forum remains a crucial continental platform, enabling dialogue, discussion, and the exchange of ideas aimed at addressing Africa’s peace and security challenges through collective, homegrown solutions.

The three-day forum, running from October 24 to 26, 2025, opened in Bahir Dar and will continue in Addis Ababa under the theme “Africa in an Evolving Global Order.” It brought together Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos, Amhara Regional State Chief Administrator Arega Kebede, and senior African, regional, and international officials, policymakers, and scholars engaged in shaping the continent’s peace and security agenda.

Ambassador Nebiat highlighted that the forum’s theme reflects Africa’s evolving role amid global geopolitical shifts and the importance of multilateral cooperation. He stressed the need for “African solutions to African problems,” emphasizing African-led approaches to the continent’s peace and security challenges.

He further noted that the discussions and recommendations from the forum would provide crucial guidance for African policymakers in addressing both regional and global issues, while also affirming Ethiopia’s continued leadership in advancing peace and regional cooperation.

In the opening session, Chief Administrator Arega Kebede emphasized the importance of charting a new path for Africa’s future within the changing global order. He described the Tana Forum as a vital platform for developing innovative African solutions to continental and global challenges and called for stronger international cooperation.

The Chief Administrator also highlighted the forum’s focus on leveraging Africa’s natural resources for industrialization, agricultural transformation, and technological advancement, with particular attention to empowering African youth in technology and innovation.
