Ethio-Djibouti railway adds more locomotives, wagons to boost capacity

Addis Ababa, February 6, 2025 (FMC) – The Ethio-Djibouti Railway (EDR) announced the addition of more locomotives and wagons to boost capacity for carrying import and export goods.

In a social media post published today, CEO of EDR Engineer Takele Uma mentioned that the company is making good progress, boosting its capacity for carrying export and import goods.

“With the addition of more locomotives and wagons, we are now able to serve even more areas, expanding from Indode and Adama to Mojoo, Dire-Dawa, and Sebeta freight yards,” he noted.

Mr. Takele stated that the company has been replacing and repairing malfunctioning equipment, increasing its fleet from 8 to 21 locomotives and from 892 to 935 wagons.

“Our dedication to enhancing our freight yard operation and space means improved efficiency and reduced logistics costs, helping meet the nation’s growing demand for transportation services,” he added.
