Ethio telecom Rolls Out teleStream as National Digital Content Platform Under ‘Next Horizon Digital and Beyond 2028’ Roadmap

Addis Ababa, February 21, 2026 (FMC) – Ethio telecom has officially rolled out teleStream, a cutting-edge internet-based streaming platform designed to transform Ethiopia’s digital and media landscape.

The platform was unveiled Friday evening at the Science Museum, marking a major milestone in the company’s corporate roadmap, “Next Horizon Digital and Beyond 2028.”

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Ethio telecom CEO Frehiwot Tamiru said teleStream is positioned as a comprehensive national digital content platform that goes beyond entertainment.

“It goes beyond mere entertainment,” Frehiwot said. “We are building a massive platform that allows the education and health sectors, as well as various institutions, to easily digitize and market their offerings.”

According to the CEO, teleStream is designed to empower key sectors including education, healthcare, tourism, cultural heritage, as well as governmental and non-governmental institutions. The platform enables these sectors to digitize, distribute and monetize their products and services at scale.

At its core, teleStream functions as a digital ecosystem for producers, media organizations and creative industry professionals, providing a centralized space where ideas can be developed into digital content capable of reaching users nationwide and beyond. While institutions already distribute content through various online channels, Frehiwot noted that teleStream offers integrated and scalable infrastructure aimed at enhancing visibility, accessibility and commercial opportunities.

The platform delivers more than 60 live television channels and over 350 video-on-demand titles, supported by Ethio telecom’s fiber and telecloud infrastructure. Utilizing fiber, 4G and 5G technologies, the service provides high-definition streaming without the need for satellite dishes.

TeleStream incorporates features such as stable fiber broadband connectivity, parental controls and educational programming. For content creators and broadcasters, the platform provides a locally hosted distribution service intended to expand audience reach and reduce reliance on foreign satellite services.

Businesses and institutions, including hotels, can utilize the service for entertainment solutions, while educational institutions are able to use it for digital libraries and remote learning resources.

Aligned with the country’s smart city vision, the platform contributes to reducing dependence on satellite dishes through internet-based streaming. Local content hosting is also aimed at strengthening domestic data management and technological capacity.

In parallel with the launch, Ethio telecom announced that it has upgraded its fixed broadband infrastructure by replacing legacy copper networks with fiber systems. The company introduced a “Fiber to the Room” service to provide targeted connectivity.

To mark the launch, Ethio telecom is offering a special introductory discount for customers who bundle teleStream with fixed broadband packages.

The launching ceremony brought together figures from the creative industry, entertainers, heads of media institutions and invited guests.
