Ethiopia Advancing Digital Standards Through National Digital ID – GCS

Addis Ababa, January 4, 2026 (FMC) – The Government Communication Service (GCS) has described Digital ID as a technological revolution that is reshaping the economic and social landscape globally, highlighting Ethiopia’s engagement through Fayda.

According to GCS, countries such as Singapore, India, and Estonia have successfully digitized the majority of their government services, modernizing citizen access and advancing inclusive governance through digital identification systems.

Citing research, GCS underscored that the implementation of digital ID is expected to substantially contribute to Ethiopia’s economic growth.

Fayda ensures that citizens enjoy equitable access to social services while enhancing national security, making the creation of fraudulent identities virtually impossible.

The system also plays a critical role in combating corruption and eliminating resource wastage by reducing intermediaries between the government and citizens, guaranteeing that services are delivered solely to their rightful recipients.

GCS noted that this streamlined service delivery provides the foundation for a globally competitive digital economy in Ethiopia.

The program is recognized as a strategic initiative for national prosperity, positioning the country to achieve its 2030 goals by reducing bureaucratic inefficiencies and integrating technological, economic, and social sectors.

GCS emphasized that every citizen has a pivotal role in the success of Ethiopia’s digital transformation and modernization by participating in the Fayda program.
