Ethiopia and Burundi Leaders Commit to Tangible Cooperation Across Sectors
Addis Ababa, April 9, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed held a fruitful bilateral meeting with President Évariste Ndayishimiye of Burundi at the National Palace in Addis Ababa.
During their engagement, the leaders oversaw the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) aimed at strengthening cooperation across various sectors.
PM Abiy also took the opportunity to congratulate President Ndayishimiye once again on his chairmanship of the African Union, while discussing broader continental issues.
“These discussions and the resulting agreements are a pivotal testament to our shared commitment, serving as the essential foundation for transforming our long-standing ties into tangible cooperation that ensures a prosperous and united future for both countries,” PM Abiy said in a social media post.
The meeting included tête-à-tête discussions as well as bilateral talks with their respective high-level delegations, marking a significant step in deepening Ethiopia-Burundi relations.
