Ethiopia and Cuba Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation

Addis Ababa, July 28, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh met with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba, Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca, today to discuss ways to deepen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Second United Nations Summit on Food Systems currently underway in Addis Ababa.

In a social media statement following the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen highlighted the long-standing diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and Cuba, which have spanned over fifty years.

“We explored avenues to further strengthen this partnership across multiple sectors of cooperation,” he said.

The Cuban Deputy Prime Minister praised Ethiopia’s recent development achievements, particularly the significant progress made in improving food security.

He also expressed admiration for the ongoing transformations in Addis Ababa.

Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen described the dialogue as productive and forward-looking, emphasizing the shared commitment to enhancing bilateral collaboration.

“We reaffirmed our mutual commitment to bolstering cooperation, especially in key political and economic sectors that promise shared benefits for both nations,” he noted.
