Ethiopia and Germany commit to deepening defense cooperation
Addis Ababa, February 15, 2026 (FMC) – Ethiopia and Germany have agreed to further strengthen cooperation in the field of defense, following bilateral discussions held during the 62nd Munich Security Conference in Munich, Germany.
A high-level Ethiopian delegation, led by Minister of Defense Aisha Mohammed, attended the conference from February 13 to 15, 2026, which focused on challenges facing the rule-based international order.
The event brought together over 1,000 participants, including heads of state, government ministers, military commanders, leaders of international organizations, and scholars, to explore ways for international actors to work collaboratively on complex issues such as security threats, climate change, trade conflicts, migration, and food security.
On the sidelines of the conference, Minister Aisha Mohammed met with Germany’s Federal Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius.
During their discussions, the two ministers agreed to enhance military and defense cooperation between their countries and work closely for mutual benefit. They also pledged to support international peace and security and to strengthen military relations through official working visits.
Established in 1963, the Munich Security Conference is a key platform for global security dialogue, offering leaders an opportunity to resolve conflicts through diplomacy and reinforce cooperation in defense and security policies.
The Ethiopian delegation’s participation in the conference underscores the country’s commitment to regional and international security collaboration, as well as its engagement with global partners to address shared security challenges.
