Ethiopia and Italy Strengthen Ties Through Signing of Joint Cooperation Declaration

Addis Ababa, July 27, 2025 — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed held an official welcoming ceremony for Italian Prime Minister and President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, at the National Palace in Addis Ababa today, ahead of the Second United Nations Food Systems Summit.

During the ceremony, senior officials from both countries signed a Joint Declaration on the “Ethiopian–Italian Cooperation Framework,” further reinforcing the longstanding partnership between Ethiopia and Italy. The signing took place in the presence of the two leaders, symbolizing their mutual commitment to deepening bilateral ties.

Following the ceremony, PM Abiy Ahmed stated, “Our longstanding partnership was further reinforced by the signing of a Joint Declaration on the Ethiopian–Italian Cooperation Framework.” He highlighted that the discussions held during the visit covered a broad range of bilateral and multilateral issues, underscoring the importance of cooperation between the two nations.

Ethiopia and Italy are co-hosting the United Nations Food Systems Summit, which will take place from July 27 to 29, 2025, in Addis Ababa. The summit aims to bring together global leaders, experts, and stakeholders to accelerate actions toward sustainable food systems worldwide.
