Ethiopia and ITU Agree to Collaborate on Hosting International Conferences, Advancing Digital Ethiopia 2030 Strategy
Addis Ababa, March 11, 2026 (FMC) – Ethiopia is accelerating its journey to become a leading digital nation in Africa and beyond, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh said, highlighting the country’s progress in expanding digital infrastructure, building digital skills, and implementing its national digital strategy.
Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen shared on his social media pages today that he met with Dr. Cosmas Zavazava, Director of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in Addis Ababa to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in digital development.
In his post, the Deputy Prime Minister noted that the ITU Director expressed admiration for Ethiopia’s “remarkable and tangible achievements in expanding telecom and digital infrastructure access, building digital skills and institutions, and effectively implementing the Digital Ethiopia 2025 strategy.”
He added that the discussion contributed significantly to accelerating Ethiopia’s digital transformation and elevating the partnership with the ITU to a higher level.
The Deputy Prime Minister said the engagement also addressed Ethiopia’s leadership role in the digital sector, the value of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for digitalization, opportunities for capacity building, and expanding new areas of collaboration.
Looking ahead, Temesgen said both sides agreed to continue working closely—not only to implement the Digital Ethiopia 2030 strategy, but also to advance the partnership into new, impactful phases across emerging sectors.
He wrote that “Ethiopia is firmly on the path to becoming a leading digital nation in Africa and beyond—through strong vision, decisive action, and strategic global partnerships.”
The Deputy Prime Minister further announced that the two sides reached an agreement to work together on hosting international conferences in Ethiopia, enabling the country to better showcase its work globally, while ensuring continued support for the Digital Ethiopia 2030 strategy.
