Ethiopia chosen as new seat of African Traditional Sports Confederation

Addis Ababa, April 8, 2026 (FMC) — The African Traditional Sports and Games Confederation (ATSGC) has formally approved the relocation of its headquarters to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in a move hailed as a boost to the promotion of traditional sports across Africa.

The decision follows a formal proposal submitted by the Ethiopian Cultural Sports Federation, highlighting Ethiopia’s commitment to supporting ATSGC’s mission and advancing the sustainable development of traditional African sports and games. ATSGC noted Ethiopia’s practical dedication, including active engagement by the State Minister of Sports during discussions held in Harar.

ATSGC said it will share a draft of the Host Protocol Agreement with the Ethiopian Cultural Sports Federation for review, after which a date for the official signing of the agreement will be scheduled.

The confederation expressed its anticipation of working closely with the Federation and Ethiopia’s Ministry of Sports and Culture to ensure a smooth transition and to build a legacy that strengthens Africa’s cultural and sporting identity for generations to come.
