Ethiopia, EU to hold high-level investment forum in Paris to boost strategic sectors

Addis Ababa, November 2, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia, the European Union, and France will hold the Ethiopia–European Investment Forum in Paris on November 3 to strengthen economic cooperation and attract investment in key growth sectors.

The high-level forum, organized by MEDEF International in collaboration with the European Commission, will focus on aviation, renewable energy, transport and logistics, and digital technology.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the event will bring together senior government officials, European corporations, and financial institutions to discuss new opportunities under the EU’s Global Gateway initiative.

Foreign Minister Dr. Gedeon Timotheos said the meeting will advance cooperation between Europe and Ethiopia in innovation, infrastructure, and inclusive growth.

Finance Minister Ahmed Shide stated that Ethiopia’s ongoing economic reform agenda has created new opportunities for international investors. “Through our Home-Grown Economic Reform Agenda and Ten-Year Development Plan, we are building a more open, resilient, and competitive economy. The European private sector is a key partner in realizing this vision,” he said.

MEDEF International CEO Philippe Gautier noted that European businesses view Ethiopia as one of Africa’s most promising investment destinations, particularly in green energy, digital infrastructure, and logistics.

The Ministry said the discussions will also highlight projects such as Bishoftu Airport and Logistics, renewable energy expansion, and the development of industrial and economic corridors.

Ethiopia’s structural reforms, including the gradual liberalization of state-owned enterprises and the strengthening of industrial and agricultural value chains, have made the country an increasingly attractive destination for European investment.

The Paris forum is expected to serve as a platform for dialogue on financing and joint ventures while paving the way for the Africa–EU Conference to be held in Kenya in April 2026.

The Ministry of Finance said the event reflects the growing momentum in Ethiopia–EU relations under the Global Gateway framework and demonstrates a shared commitment to sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
