Ethiopia explores Czech firm Omnipol’s aviation options to bolster tourism

Addis Ababa, August 27, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia is exploring opportunities to expand aviation cooperation with Czech industrial group Omnipol to support the development of its tourism sector, following the country’s participation in the historic exhibition of the iconic hominid fossils Lucy and Selam in Prague.

Minister of Tourism Selamawit Kassa led the visit to Omnipol, where the delegation was introduced to the company’s small aircraft models, designed to transport tourists to remote destinations. She asserted that the consultations and site visits aimed to promote new tourist destinations and enhance Ethiopia’s tourism infrastructure.

Minister Selamawit noted that aviation has long been a key area of collaboration between Ethiopia and the Czech Republic. She said the discussions focused on strengthening this partnership to support Ethiopia’s tourism objectives and integrate aviation solutions into the country’s broader tourism development plans, improving connectivity and visitor experience.

Officials from Omnipol, a company with over 80 years of experience in aviation and defense, expressed interest in supporting Ethiopia’s tourism initiatives and discussed potential areas of cooperation.

The Omnipol visit followed Ethiopia’s participation in the Prague exhibition of Lucy and Selam, the country’s iconic hominid fossils. The exhibition highlighted Ethiopia’s pivotal role as the cradle of humankind and drew wide attention from international scientists, policymakers, and the general public, further promoting the country’s cultural and scientific heritage.
