Ethiopia facilitates safe repatriation of over 131,000 citizens abroad, MFA says

Addis Ababa, July 10, 2025 (FMC) — Ambassador Nebiat Getachew, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced today that Ethiopia has successfully facilitated the return of 131,014 citizens from 21 countries who were facing difficult situations.

In a press briefing, Ambassador Nebiat highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of Ethiopian nationals abroad through coordinated repatriation efforts.

He emphasized that these operations reflect Ethiopia’s dedication to protecting its citizens and responding promptly to emergencies impacting diaspora communities worldwide.

Ambassador Nebiat also noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to work closely with diplomatic missions and international partners to provide timely assistance and support to Ethiopians overseas in challenging circumstances.
