Ethiopia Gears Up to Host 2025 UNFSS+4 and African Climate Conference
Addis Ababa, July 10, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia is preparing to host two pivotal international conferences in 2025, underscoring its commitment to advancing national interests in agriculture, food security, climate action, and sustainable development, according to Ambassador Nebiat Getachew, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Speaking at a press briefing today, Ambassador Nebiat stated that the Second United Nations Food Systems Summit Stocktaking Moment (UNFSS+4) will be held in Addis Ababa from July 27 to 29, 2025, jointly organized by Ethiopia and Italy. He noted that Ethiopia is focusing on issues that protect its national interests at this summit.
He particularly highlighted the summit as an opportunity to promote Ethiopia’s achievements and ongoing efforts in the agricultural sector and food systems, as well as ensuring food sovereignty.
Ambassador Nebiat also noted that approximately one month after UNFSS+4, Ethiopia will host the Second African Climate Change Conference, expected to attract up to 25,000 participants from across Africa and beyond. This conference aims to foster continental collaboration to tackle pressing climate challenges.
He added that these events are expected to further elevate Ethiopia’s role in global discussions and showcase the country’s efforts in climate action, sustainable development, and international cooperation.
Ambassador Nebiat emphasized that Ethiopia’s preparations for these summits reflect its practical commitment to global challenges, particularly climate change, and its aspiration to contribute meaningfully to international solutions.
Preparations are well underway under the leadership of a National Organizing Committee to ensure the success of both conferences.
The United Nations Food Systems Summit Stocktaking Moment (UNFSS+4) is part of an ongoing global effort to transform food systems to be more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient. This summit builds on previous milestones, including the inaugural 2021 UN Food Systems Summit and the first Stocktaking Moment in 2023, providing a platform for countries to assess progress, share innovations, and mobilize investments to achieve food security worldwide.
The African Climate Change Conference serves as a vital forum for African nations to coordinate responses to the continent’s unique climate challenges. It brings together government leaders, experts, and stakeholders to discuss climate mitigation and adaptation strategies, promote sustainable development, and strengthen partnerships for climate resilience across Africa.
