Ethiopia reaffirms continued cooperation with South Sudan

Addis Ababa, May 24, 2025 (FMC) — The Ethiopian government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting peace and stability in South Sudan, emphasizing that such stability is crucial to Ethiopia’s national interest.

This was disclosed after the Director General of Ethiopia’s National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS), Ambassador Redwan Hussein, and the Prime Minister’s Advisor on East African Affairs, Mr. Getachew Reda, met with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit and Vice President Benjamin Bol Mel in Juba on Friday.

During the meeting, the Ethiopian delegation conveyed a message from Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) to the South Sudanese leadership, reiterating Ethiopia’s readiness to provide all necessary assistance to promote peace and stability in the neighboring country, it has been learned.

In response, President Kiir and Vice President Bol Mel expressed their gratitude for Ethiopia’s unwavering support and called for its further strengthening.

The Ethiopian delegation, which traveled to South Sudan on May 23 to deliver the message and engage in discussions, has since returned to Ethiopia.
