Ethiopia records highest-ever export revenue, surpassing 8.3 Billion USD in past FY
Addis Ababa, October 6, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia earned 8.3 billion USD from exports in the 2024/25 fiscal year, marking the highest-ever revenue from foreign trade, President Taye Atske-Selassie told a joint session of Parliament on Monday.
The joint opening session of Ethiopia’s bicameral Parliament — comprising the House of Peoples’ Representatives and the House of Federation — was held this afternoon. The session was attended by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, senior federal ministers, leaders of regional states, ambassadors and representatives of international organizations, religious leaders, and other invited dignitaries.
Presenting the federal government’s performance for 2024/25 and priorities for the new fiscal year before a joint session of Parliament on Monday, the President noted that this represents a 116 percent increase compared to the previous fiscal year, underscoring the country’s growing international trade presence and economic resilience.
Highlighting sectoral contributions, President Taye said agriculture and industry were key drivers of the export surge, complemented by Ethiopia’s expanding digital economy and industrial production capacity.
He added that over 150 international conferences and forums were held in Ethiopia during the year, further strengthening the country’s profile as a regional hub for trade, investment, and diplomacy.
President Taye emphasized that the government’s fiscal discipline, including concluding the year without taking direct loans from the central bank, contributed to sustainable economic growth and a conducive environment for exporters.
The record exports, he said, reflect the government’s strategic policies to support private-sector growth, enhance production, and open new markets abroad, ensuring that Ethiopia continues to capitalize on its economic potential.
