Ethiopia to Complete Landmark Infrastructure Projects, Says DPM Temesgen
Addis Ababa, August 19, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia remains firmly committed to completing landmark infrastructure projects that will cement national unity and accelerate economic transformation, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh said on Tuesday.
Speaking at the official launch of the 144-kilometer Mieso–Dire Dawa expressway, Temesgen described the project as a defining milestone in Ethiopia’s path of renewal and prosperity.
In a statement shared on social media, he noted that the expressway embodies the nation’s determination to expand modern infrastructure, strengthen economic corridors, and open new gateways to global markets.
“The road will serve as a vital artery of the Eastern Economic Corridor, linking the Oromia and Somali regions with Dire Dawa,” Temesgen said. “It will foster economic and social integration, reduce transport costs and travel time from the port to the center of the country, and create new opportunities for Ethiopian goods in continental and international trade.”
He emphasized that the government will maintain close oversight to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of the project, while holding all partners accountable.
Financed with 62.6 billion birr from the World Bank, the four-year project is expected to significantly enhance Ethiopia’s logistical competitiveness and drive inclusive development.
