Ethiopia to share its policy-led climate adaptation experience at upcoming Africa Climate Summit
Addis Ababa, July 15, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia is gearing up to host the Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2) from September 8–10, 2025, in Addis Ababa, in partnership with the African Union Commission (AUC).
The summit will serve as a continental platform for advancing climate resilience, green development, and sustainable financing across Africa.
In preparation for the summit, the Ministry of Planning and Development (MoPD) has launched a consultative forum with development partners, civil society organizations, and international foundations to ensure the conference reflects Africa’s priorities and potential.
State Minister of Planning and Development, Mr. Seyoum Mekonnen, noted that Ethiopia is making significant progress in building a climate-resilient and green economy. He emphasized that the country’s experience in policy-driven climate adaptation, particularly through large-scale renewable energy investments, will be among the key contributions it brings to the summit.
Mr. Seyoum also highlighted that the summit will create opportunities for mutual learning, where countries across the continent can share innovations and best practices in climate action. He called on international foundations, donor agencies, and civil society actors to actively engage in making the summit a success and a meaningful milestone in Africa’s climate agenda.
Scheduled under the theme “Accelerating Global Climate Solutions and Financing for Africa’s Resilient and Green Development,” ACS2 will convene Heads of State, climate experts, youth leaders, and private sector stakeholders to deliberate on critical issues. These include nature- and technology-based solutions, climate adaptation and resilience, and mobilizing climate finance to support Africa-led action.
Ethiopia’s hosting of ACS2 reflects its growing leadership in regional and global climate diplomacy, as well as its commitment to sustainable development and green transformation.
