Ethiopia, Zambia Sign Military Cooperation Agreement
Addis Ababa, December 10, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia and Zambia have signed a military cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening bilateral defense relations and expanding collaboration across multiple military fields.
The agreement was concluded following discussions between Field Marshal Berhanu Jula, Chief of Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF), and Lieutenant General Geoffrey Choongo Zyeele, Chief of Staff of the Zambian Armed Forces.
During the meeting, Field Marshal Berhanu underlined Ethiopia’s commitment to regional peace, security, and cooperation. He also indicated Ethiopia’s readiness to further deepen military relations with Zambia.
Lieutenant General Zyeele noted that enhanced cooperation would support military capacity building and create mutual benefit for both nations. He highlighted Ethiopia’s long-standing military experience, referencing its historical record since the Battle of Adwa, and expressed appreciation for Ethiopia’s willingness to work with Zambia.
Following the discussions, Ethiopian Defense State Minister Martha Luigi and Zambia’s Ministry of Defence Permanent Secretary Maambo Haamaundu signed the cooperation agreement, in the presence of the Chiefs of Staff of both countries.
The agreement covers collaboration in areas including modern army development, security, military education and training, military industry, and other related sectors, Lt. Col. Woubshet Chekol, Chief Editor of ENDF Online Media, told Fana Media Corporation.
