Ethiopian Airlines flights to Dhaka spur new momentum in Ethiopia–Bangladesh ties: Diplomat
Addis Ababa, March 26, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia and Bangladesh are gaining renewed momentum in their bilateral relations, with enhanced connectivity and expanding cooperation taking center stage, according to Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Ethiopia.
The Bangladesh Embassy in Addis Ababa commemorated the 56th Independence Day of Bangladesh in the presence of diplomats and distinguished guests, highlighting the growing ties between the two nations.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Sitwat Nayeem described March 26 as a historic day of great significance in Bangladesh’s history.
He stressed that the launch of direct flights by Ethiopian Airlines to Dhaka has established a crucial link between the two countries, strengthening people-to-people ties and creating new opportunities for trade, commerce, and tourism.
The Ambassador further noted his commitment to working collaboratively with Ethiopian counterparts to elevate bilateral relations to a higher level, using the occasion as a platform to advance cooperation. He also extended his best wishes for peace, prosperity, and progress to the government and people of Ethiopia.
On the Ethiopian side, Dawano Kedir, Director General for Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific Affairs, said that relations between the two countries have steadily grown since the establishment of the Bangladesh Embassy in Addis Ababa in 2016, particularly in multilateral diplomacy.
He added that both countries have collaborated closely in United Nations peacekeeping operations, reflecting a shared commitment to international peace and security.
Dawano also underscored Ethiopia’s interest in deepening economic cooperation with Bangladesh, especially in textile technology, pharmaceuticals, fisheries, and social and human development sectors.
He further noted that Ethiopia sees considerable investment potential across various industries, paving the way for stronger trade and broader economic ties between the two countries.
