Ethiopian Airlines opens new world-class passenger terminal and support facilities in Wollo Kombolcha

Addis Ababa, July 31, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopian Airlines has officially inaugurated its new, state-of-the-art passenger terminal and support facilities in Wollo Kombolcha Airport Terminal, marking a significant upgrade to the city’s air travel infrastructure.

The opening ceremony was held in the presence of Mr. Arega Kebede, Chief Administrator of the Amhara Regional State, alongside senior regional government officials and Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mr. Mesfin Tasew.

The project, valued at over 1.8 billion birr (approximately 12 million Euros), includes a modern passenger terminal, a dedicated VIP terminal, and expanded support facilities. The new terminal can accommodate up to 320 passengers at a time, significantly enhancing the travel experience for passengers flying to and from Wollo Kombolcha airport.

Mr. Arega Kebede emphasized that the expansion of Wollo Kombolcha Airport brings great benefits to both the Amhara region and the country, supporting broader regional development and connectivity.

He also noted that several major infrastructure projects are currently under construction and will soon be completed to further boost the region’s growth.

Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mr. Mesfin Tasew highlighted the airline’s commitment to modernizing and expanding its domestic and international destinations. He stated that Ethiopian Airlines is working diligently to complete six new airports across Ethiopia on schedule and with high quality, underscoring the airline’s role in advancing the country’s air transport infrastructure.

The upgraded facilities at Wollo Kombolcha Airport are expected to strengthen regional air connectivity, promote tourism, and facilitate trade and investment in the area.
