Ethiopian Airlines unveils $150 million state-of-the-art aviation facilities

Addis Ababa, July 22, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopian Airlines has inaugurated a suite of cutting-edge aviation facilities—including new hangars, a modern Aircraft Component Shop, and a state-of-the-art Aircraft Parts Store—developed at a total investment of 150 million USD.

Completed within two years, the new infrastructure marks a major milestone in the airline’s Vision 2035 strategy, aimed at expanding its Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) capabilities to support its growing fleet and enhance global competitiveness.

The inauguration ceremony, held today in Addis Ababa, was attended by senior government officials, diplomats, executives, and distinguished guests.

The new facilities are a testament to Ethiopian Airlines’ commitment to operational excellence and its continued leadership as Africa’s largest and most dependable aviation group.

Speaking at the event, Lieutenant General Yilma Merdasa, Commander of the Ethiopian Air Force and Chairman of the Board of Ethiopian Airlines, highlighted the national and continental significance of the new infrastructure.

“We are stepping into a future where Ethiopia’s MRO capabilities are recognized globally,” he said. “Investing in aviation is vital not only for economic growth but also for national security and technological advancement.”

General Yilma underscored the broader mission of Ethiopian Airlines, stating: “This airline is more than a business—it is a symbol of innovation, resilience, and pan-African progress. While infrastructure matters, what defines our excellence is discipline, vision, and a steadfast commitment to service.”

He also praised the collaborative effort that made the project possible, commending internal teams such as engineering and planning, as well as international partners who contributed to the achievement.

Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew described the facilities as a crucial step toward realizing the airline’s long-term vision.

“This entire project was completed in just two years at a cost of 150 million dollars,” he noted. “It plays a key role in achieving the goals outlined in our Vision 2035 plan.”

As the airline continues to expand across Africa and beyond, the newly inaugurated facilities will serve as a foundation for sustainable growth, technological innovation, and high-quality aviation services.

The expansion further reinforces Ethiopian Airlines’ leading role in African aviation while creating new opportunities in technical training, job creation, and regional industry development.
