Addis Ababa, April 22, 2025 (FMC) — The high level Ethiopian delegation led by Finance Minister, Mr. Ahmed Shide, the Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE), Mr. Mamo Mihretu, Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister, Mr. Teklewold Atnafu, Finance State Minister, Eyob Tekalign, and other delegates, traveled to Washington, D.C., to attend the 2025 IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings.

The Ethiopian delegation held productive discussions with high level management and officials of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) officials on the first day of the Spring Meetings.

The delegation met with the IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and other high level IMF officials to exchange on Ethiopia’s ongoing macroeconomic reforms and areas for further support and collaboration.

The MD commended Ethiopia for the strong determination and great progress made in restoring macroeconomic stability and the critical steps taken to sustain the country’s reform agenda despite global challenges.

Ms. Georgieva praised the positive achievements recorded during the recent IMF program review mission held in Ethiopia, including drop in inflation, strong fiscal discipline, and improved revenue mobilization among other areas.

The Minister expressed Ethiopia’s appreciation for the IMF’s support, which has been instrumental in advancing the country’s reform agenda aimed at unlocking the country’s full economic potential by strengthening and modernizing the economy, unlocking new growth opportunities, and fostering private sector investment to create jobs and deliver higher standards of living for all Ethiopians.

The two sides exchanged views on measures to continue deepening the reform efforts, particularly in further improving the business climate to attract more investment in Ethiopia.

The MD reaffirmed IMF’s commitment to support Ethiopia’s Home Grown Economic Reform Program.

The meeting concluded with the two sides pledging for continued collaboration and IMF engagement to support Ethiopia’s growth and development goals.
