Ethiopian Diplomacy Day Celebrated Nationwide and Across Missions Worldwide
Addis Ababa, October 14, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia marked its annual Diplomacy Day with celebrations held in Addis Ababa and at Ethiopian missions across the globe, highlighting the dedication and service of the nation’s diplomatic community.
At a diplomatic family evening organized to commemorate the occasion, Minister of Foreign Affairs Gedion Timothewos announced that the Ministry is developing a framework to institutionalize October 14 as Ethiopian Diplomacy Day, to be observed annually as a permanent national event.
The celebration aims to honor Ethiopian diplomats and their enduring contributions to the country’s international engagement.
This year’s observance featured a series of events over the past days that reflected the unity, resilience, and professionalism of Ethiopia’s diplomats. Among the highlights were the Model African Union Simulation Summit, hosted at the African Union Headquarters, and a Diplomats’ Sports Competition held at Entoto Park.
The Model AU Summit, Gedion noted, was designed to nurture Pan-African values among Ethiopian youth and inspire the next generation of diplomats.
The Minister emphasized that diplomacy is a calling that often demands service in challenging conditions—amid conflicts, instability, and natural or man-made crises—requiring dedication, discipline, and sacrifice. He urged all diplomats and staff to continue serving with patriotism and integrity, ensuring Ethiopia’s national interests and the dignity of its citizens are upheld in every international engagement.
The evening also featured a recognition ceremony honoring diplomats who have retired from active service, acknowledging their lasting contributions to Ethiopia’s diplomatic legacy.
