Ethiopian Epiphany Being Celebrated Nationwide with Deep Devotion and Grandeur

Addis Ababa, January 19, 2029 (FMC) — The Ethiopian Epiphany (Timket) festival is being celebrated across the country with deep spiritual devotion and vibrant public ceremonies by followers of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church and the Ethiopian Catholic Church.

The celebrations are drawing especially large gatherings in Addis Ababa’s Jan Meda and the historic city of Gondar, where millions of faithful, along with numerous foreign visitors, are taking part in one of Ethiopia’s most sacred religious observances.

Timket is also being marked with solemnity and enthusiasm in various parts of the country, including the islands of Batu Dembel Lake and Irambuti in Minjar, while religious ceremonies are underway in cities, towns, and communities nationwide.

The ongoing celebrations follow Ketera, the ceremonial eve of Timket, which was observed yesterday across Ethiopia. During Ketera, sacred tabots—revered replicas of the Ark of the Covenant—were carried from churches and escorted to designated baptismal sites.

Today, the festival is reaching its spiritual climax as baptismal rites are being conducted at these sites through prayers, blessings, and traditional religious ceremonies, reflecting the enduring faith and unity of Ethiopian Christians.
