Ethiopian Literature Resonates Globally, Says Writers’ Association President
Addis Ababa, October 21, 2025 (FMC) – The President of the Ethiopian Writers’ Association, Abere Adamu, has said that Ethiopian literature is increasingly captivating international readers, reflecting the nation’s expanding cultural influence.
In an exclusive interview with TV BRICS, Abere noted that the inclusion of Ethiopian authors in the BRICS Literary Award longlist marks an important milestone for the country’s literary community. The recognition, he said, not only celebrates creative excellence but also strengthens cultural and humanitarian ties among the ten BRICS member nations.
He highlighted that such international platforms play a key role in promoting Ethiopian stories to global audiences, particularly through translation initiatives that make works written in Amharic, Oromo, and Tigrinya accessible worldwide. This, he explained, creates new opportunities for Ethiopian authors to reach readers in Russia, China, India, Brazil, and other countries.
Abere further underscored that Ethiopian literature’s themes — including social transformation, spirituality, and human endurance — deeply resonate with readers across cultures. He also pointed out that Ethiopia’s long-standing cultural relationship with Russia enhances this literary connection.
Expressing optimism about the future, Abere said Ethiopia’s growing presence in international literary platforms represents a significant step toward the global recognition of African literature and the amplification of Ethiopian voices within it.
