Dialogue Commission Updates International Community on Progress, Calls for Continued Support

Addis Ababa, December 9, 2025 (FMC) — The Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission (ENDC) briefed members of the international diplomatic corps and representatives of global organizations on the progress of the country’s ongoing national dialogue process, highlighting key achievements and challenges.

Chief Commissioner Professor Mesfin Areaya welcomed the participants, emphasizing that the dialogue provides a platform for all Ethiopians to have their voices heard.

He described the initiative as a crucial mechanism for addressing the nation’s longstanding socio-political challenges and for renewing the social contract between the state and its citizens.

“The Commission is mandated to lead this dialogue with impartiality, transparency, and accountability,” Professor Mesfin said, noting that significant efforts are being made to bring diverse groups together for the common good.

He added that a successful dialogue would not only strengthen Ethiopia internally but also contribute positively to regional stability. Professor Mesfin called on the international community to continue its support for the initiative.

During the session, Commissioner Dr. Ambaye Ogato presented a detailed overview of the dialogue’s milestones and ongoing challenges.

He highlighted a notable shift in the process from discussions centered on divisive issues toward identifying shared solutions that promote unity and national cohesion.

Dr. Ambaye also pointed to several hurdles, including the spread of misinformation on social media, security and logistical issues in the Tigray region, and the decision of some political parties to abstain from participation.

He stressed that the dialogue, aimed at improving the lives of citizens and strengthening national resilience, requires sustained engagement and support from international partners.

The briefing underscored the ENDC’s commitment to advancing Ethiopia’s national dialogue with integrity while seeking constructive collaboration from the global community.
