Ethiopian Parliament Opens 42nd Regular Session in Presence of PM Abiy Ahmed

Addis Ababa, July 3, 2025 (FMC) — The House of People’s Representatives has opened its 42nd regular session this morning in the presence of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD), convening for the final sitting of the 2017 Ethiopian fiscal year.

Members of Parliament are currently forwarding their questions to the Prime Minister on various national issues. The Prime Minister is expected to deliver his remarks shortly, addressing the federal government’s performance over the outgoing fiscal year and outlining priorities for the upcoming one.

The session is also expected to conclude with the House’s endorsement of the draft federal budget for the 2018 Ethiopian fiscal year (2025/26), which is set to begin next week.

The meeting is being attended by invited guests, including foreign ambassadors, representatives of international organizations based in Addis Ababa, religious leaders, prominent figures, and leaders of opposition political parties.
