Ethiopia’s National Dialogue Commission to Hold Tigray Region Agenda-Setting Process in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, March 27, 2026 (FMC) — The Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission has announced that the agenda-setting process for Tigray Region will take place in Addis Ababa from April 1 to 3, 2026.

The announcement was made during a press briefing held today on the ongoing national dialogue process in the region.

Addressing the media, Chief Commissioner Mesfin Araya said the Commission’s efforts to ensure an inclusive and participatory dialogue process have yielded encouraging progress.

He noted that sustained engagements have been carried out to facilitate the launch of the dialogue in Tigray and to help create conducive conditions for its implementation. According to him, more than 22 consultations have been conducted with the regional interim administration, political parties operating in the region, scholars, and other stakeholders, both in Mekelle and Addis Ababa.

However, he indicated that the absence of sufficient enabling conditions in the region has led the Commission to shift the agenda-setting process and the selection of regional representatives for the upcoming national dialogue conference to Addis Ababa.

Accordingly, the agenda-setting exercise, along with the identification of representatives, will be conducted in the capital over the three-day period, the Chief Commissioner confirmed.

Mesfin Araya also called on stakeholders at all levels to actively engage in the process, underscoring the importance of broad participation in the dialogue scheduled for April 2026.
