Ethiopia’s Shure Demise Sets Course Record to Win Women’s Race at Paris Marathon
Addis Ababa, April 12, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s Shure Demise delivered a remarkable performance to win the women’s race at the Paris Marathon 2026, setting a new course record in the process.
Demise crossed the finish line in a personal-best time of 2 hours, 18 minutes and 34 seconds, shaving more than a minute off the previous course record and securing a dominant victory in the French capital.
The Ethiopian runner led a strong field throughout the race, finishing ahead of compatriot Misgane Alemayehu, who clocked 2:19:08, while Kenya’s Magdalyne Masai took third place with a time of 2:19:17.
The marathon, which attracted nearly 60,000 participants, concluded along Avenue Foch near the Arc de Triomphe, one of Paris’s most iconic landmarks.
In the men’s race, Italy’s Yemaneberhan Crippa claimed victory with a time of 2:05:18, narrowly edging out Ethiopian runners Bayelign Teshager and Sila Kiptoo.
