Ethiopia’s two houses open joint session in the presence of PM Abiy Ahmed

Addis Ababa, October 6, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s House of Peoples’ Representatives and House of Federation convened their joint session this afternoon, officially marking the fifth year of the 6th HoPR and the beginning of the 2018 Ethiopian fiscal year.

The session opened in the presence of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, alongside lawmakers, ambassadors, representatives of international organizations, religious leaders, and other prominent figures.

The joint session, held in line with the Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, provides a platform for the government to present its annual plan and set national policy priorities once the President Taye Atske-Selassie delivers his address.

Members of both Houses are expected to review the government’s proposals and engage in discussions that will guide Ethiopia’s legislative and development agenda for the year ahead.
