Etihad Airways launches daily flights between Abu Dhabi and Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, October 8, 2025 (FMC) – Etihad Airways has officially launched daily flights connecting Abu Dhabi and Addis Ababa today, strengthening air links between the United Arab Emirates and Ethiopia.

The inaugural flights mark a milestone in the strategic partnership agreement signed between Ethiopian Airlines and Etihad Airways to collaborate in the aviation sector.

Under the agreement, both carriers coordinate schedules, share resources, and jointly develop routes, providing travelers with more options and seamless connections.

Through this partnership, Etihad passengers gain access to over 55 destinations in 33 African countries via Ethiopian Airlines’ Addis Ababa hub, while Ethiopian customers can connect through Abu Dhabi to more than 20 destinations across Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.

The launch ceremony was attended by Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mr. Mesfin Tasew and Etihad Airways CEO Mr. Antonoaldo Neves.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Mesfin recalled that the two airlines have entered into operations in accordance with the memorandum of understanding signed to enhance cooperation.

He emphasized that the partnership agreement represents an additional capacity for Ethiopian Airlines, reinforcing its network and service offerings.

Mr. Neves highlighted that the partnership “creates a bridge between two regions with expanding connections and growing economic relations,” describing the new service as a step that “redefines connectivity between Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.”

Addis Ababa becomes a key pillar in Etihad’s expanding African network, complementing its plans to increase flights to other major African cities such as Nairobi, Casablanca, Johannesburg, and Tunis, while also strengthening cooperation with regional carriers.

Etihad is additionally planning to resume seasonal flights to Zanzibar in 2026, further enhancing connections between Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, it has been learned.

This development builds on Ethiopian Airlines’ earlier expansion under the same agreement, which included the launch of a flight to Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport in July.

Industry experts note that the new daily flights are expected to play a pivotal role in Ethiopia’s economic growth by facilitating tourism, expanding trade opportunities, and strengthening business ties between the two countries.

Addis Ababa, home to the African Union and several international organizations, serves as a strategic hub combining culture, commerce, and connectivity, making it a vital addition to Etihad’s route map.
