FAO chief praises Ethiopia’s food security, Green Legacy, and dev’t achievements

Addis Ababa, October 17, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia has received high praise from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for its notable progress in food security, sustainable development, and environmental initiatives.

Ethiopia’s Tourism Minister, Ms. Selamawit Kassa, met with FAO Director-General Mr. Qu Dongyu in Rome, where he commended the country’s achievements in wheat and rice production, urban-rural corridor development, and the Green Legacy initiative.

He also highlighted the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD), noting that Ethiopia’s successes stem from bold decisions, effective leadership, and the dedication of its people.

Following the meeting, Minister Selamawit said on her social media page that she conveyed Ethiopia’s gratitude to FAO for its continued support and partnership.

She added that Mr. Dongyu reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting Ethiopia across multiple development sectors.

It is noteworthy that FAO has honored Ethiopia’s Green Legacy initiative with a prestigious award for its role in sustainable forest management this week during the World Food Forum.

FAO also honored Ethiopian.Agricultural Transformation Institute (ATI) with the FAO Achievement Award 2025 for its for its flagship Agricultural Commercialization Cluster programme in the country.
