Finance Forward Ethiopia Conference Opens in Presence of PM Abiy Ahmed

Addis Ababa, January 15, 2026 (FMC) — The Finance Forward Ethiopia Conference opened in Addis Ababa on Thursday in the presence of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, bringing together key institutions shaping the country’s financial and revenue systems.

Six major institutions presented assessments of their performance to date and outlined strategic priorities for the next five years, with discussions centered on aligning future plans with Ethiopia’s broader economic reform agenda.

In a statement shared on social media, the Office of the Prime Minister said the conference reviewed progress achieved through wide-ranging macroeconomic reforms implemented over the past five years, particularly efforts aimed at expanding financial inclusion and strengthening the financial sector.

The reforms include the transition to a market-based foreign exchange regime, the implementation of home-grown economic reform programs, and the digitalization of payment systems. These measures were cited as key steps toward enhancing competitiveness, efficiency, and resilience across Ethiopia’s financial landscape.

The conference is expected to serve as a platform for reinforcing coordination among financial institutions as the country advances its reform-driven growth and revenue mobilization objectives.
