Finance Minister Highlights Ethiopia’s Reform Agenda and AfCFTA Employment Vision at World Economic Forum 2026

Addis Ababa, January 20, 2026 (FMC) — A high-level Ethiopian delegation, led by Finance Minister Ahmed Shide Mohammed, is participating in the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2026 in Davos–Klosters, Switzerland, from January 19 to 23, under the theme “The Spirit of Dialogue.”

On January 20, Ahmed Shide spoke at the high-level session “Africa’s Job Engine,” highlighting the transformative potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in generating inclusive employment for Africa’s youth.

Mr..Ahmed emphasised Ethiopia’s Homegrown Economic Reform Program 2.0, focusing on agri-food value chains, small and medium-sized enterprises, light manufacturing, industrial parks, and services linked to urbanisation.

He also outlined the Jobs-First AfCFTA Production Compact for 2026 as a framework to expand employment opportunities, strengthen regional value chains, and empower youth and women entrepreneurs.

On January 19, Ahmed Shide addressed the panel “The Downing of the New Global Health Architecture,” advocating for a fair, predictable, and country-led global health financing system.

The Minister highlighted Ethiopia’s successful models, including pooled funding through the SDG Performance Fund, co-financing compacts, and investments in local pharmaceutical production.

He reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to the Lusaka Agenda and the principle of “One Plan, One Budget, One Report,” promoting equity, solidarity, and shared responsibility in global health.

The delegation continues to engage in multilateral and bilateral discussions at WEF 2026, joining global leaders in addressing pressing economic, social, and health challenges.
