GERD embodies Ethiopian unity and national potential – Senior ENDF Officials

Addis Ababa, June 15, 2025 (FMC) — Senior officers of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) have hailed the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) as a powerful symbol of national unity and the boundless potential of the Ethiopian people.

The remarks were made during the anniversary celebration of the Western Command’s Renaissance Corps, held under the theme “GERD with the Renaissance Corps.” The event featured a visit to the dam site by ENDF personnel and high-ranking officials.

Deputy Commander of the Western Command, Major General Mulatu Jelde, commended the nationwide effort behind the dam, emphasizing that “Ethiopians from all walks of life have exerted relentless efforts to bring GERD to its final stage.”

He highlighted the military’s pivotal role in safeguarding the project, stating that ENDF members have made significant contributions, particularly in ensuring the dam’s security throughout its construction.

Brigadier General Azezew Mekonnen, Commander of Region III Corps under the Western Command, reaffirmed the army’s unwavering commitment to defending Ethiopia’s sovereignty.

“The Renaissance Corps continues to play a vital role in maintaining peace and stability in and around the GERD site,” he said, vowing to further intensify these efforts.

Both senior officers underscored the importance of GERD as a national lifeline, affirming the Defense Forces’ dedication to preserving peace in the area.

They described the dam as a testament to Ethiopia’s resilience and unity, and expressed pride in its near completion—calling it a true blessing for the country.
