Gondar’s Heritage and Infrastructure Rejuvenation Signal New Dawn of Progress, Says Deputy PM
Addis Ababa, November 7, 2025 (FMC) — Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh has declared the beginning of a transformative chapter in Gondar, signaling what he calls the city’s “second era of civilization.”
In a message shared on social media, the Deputy Prime Minister reflected on the extensive restoration of Fasiledes Castle, describing the centuries-old monument as having “waited for its death after four hundred years of neglect.”
He praised Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s leadership in spearheading the revival, saying the landmark has now “risen like an eagle.”
Temesgen also highlighted major infrastructure improvements across Gondar, specifically pointing to the renovation of the road from Azazo to Piazza.
He described the rebuilt route as “beautiful, functional, and comfortable,” calling it a tangible symbol of the city’s transformation.
The Deputy Prime Minister further drew attention to the rejuvenation of the Megech River project, once considered stagnant.
“The story of Megech, which was once a tale of stagnation, has changed; it now stands as an example of resilience—of falling and rising, of weariness turned into strength,” he said.
Concluding his statement, DPM Temesgen affirmed that the river has “turned and crossed a crucial milestone,” marking what he sees as the beginning of Gondar’s renewed era of civilization.
