Growing partnership between FMC and China media group hailed as a bridge of friendship

Addis Ababa, November 12, 2025 (FMC) – China’s cooperation with Ethiopia in media, language education, and cultural programs is strengthening mutual understanding and deepening people-to-people ties, according to Chinese Embassy Charge d’Affaires in Addis Ababa, Mr. Sun Mingxi.

Speaking exclusively to Fana Media Corporation, Mr. Sun highlighted the growing partnership between Fana Media Corporation (FMC) and China Media Group (CMG), particularly in content sharing and joint media initiatives. “We are now focused on the follow-up, and we have seen concrete results recently. Next year, there will be more outstanding Chinese TV programs shown on the platform of FMC,” he said.

He recalled the success of the first China-Ethiopia Film and TV Festival held in Addis Ababa last year, which showcased films and television works from both countries and marked a notable expansion of cultural exchange.

Mr. Sun also underscored the importance of educational cooperation, including the exchange of students and teachers, scholarships and training programs. Ethiopia has been the top recipient of Chinese scholarships and short-term training globally in recent years, benefiting more than 1,000 Ethiopian students annually.

“Media cooperation, language programs, and educational partnerships strengthen the friendship between our peoples and reinforce Ethiopia’s role as a hub for cultural and educational exchange in Africa,” he said.

He further highlighted the activities of the Confucius Institutes in Ethiopia, the promotion of Chinese language teaching in schools and universities, and the introduction of Amharic language courses at Beijing Foreign Studies University. These efforts, he noted, aim to enhance mutual understanding and cultural knowledge between the two nations.

Looking ahead, Mr. Sun noted that 2026 will be designated as the China-Africa People-to-People Exchange Year, with preparations underway for programs that will further strengthen ties across the continent. “The friendship between our countries stems from the close ties of our peoples, and media and cultural cooperation plays a vital role in deepening this understanding,” he said.
