Holy Synod of EOTC Concludes General Meeting
Addis Ababa, May 28, 2025 (FMC) – The Holy Synod of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC) has concluded its general meeting today, following 15 days of sessions, the Church announced in a statement.
In the statement, Abune Dioscoros, Secretary of the Holy Synod, outlined the key outcomes of the meeting, which addressed major ecclesiastical matters, national issues, and current affairs. A total of 16 resolutions were passed.
The Church called upon Ethiopians to resolve their differences through peaceful means and constructive dialogue.
Abune Dioscoros also expressed gratitude to the Mayor of Addis Ababa, Adanech Abiebie, for her support in restoring and replacing church properties impacted by the capital’s corridor development projects.
He further announced that the Holy Synod has approved a 5.4 billion birr annual budget for the upcoming Ethiopian fiscal year.
In addition, he stated that the Synod had granted forgiveness to clergy members who had delivered sermons diverging from the Church’s teachings, following their formal apologies and reinstatement into service.
The Synod also made several key appointments: His Eminence Abune Sawiros was elected General Manager of the EOTC; His Eminence Abune Dioscorus was reappointed as Secretary of the Holy Synod; and His Holiness Abune Hiriakos was appointed Archbishop of Addis Ababa, Hadiya, and Silte areas.
