India, Saudi Arabia strengthen strategic partnership with long-term fertiliser supply and investment agreements

Addis Ababa, July 15, 2025 (FMC) – The Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilisers of India, Jagat Prakash Nadda, concluded a three-day official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with engagements in Dammam and Riyadh.

The visit aimed to deepen bilateral collaboration in the fertiliser, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical sectors and was marked by significant progress in securing India’s long-term fertiliser needs, TV BRICS reported, citing its partner media ANI.

During his meeting in Riyadh with Bandar Ibrahim Alkhorayef, Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Minister Nadda discussed enhancing cooperation in fertilisers and related industries. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening supply chains and advancing mutual investments in the chemical sector.

A major highlight of the visit was the signing of long-term agreements for the annual supply of 3.1 million metric tonnes of diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertiliser to India from the 2025–26 fiscal year onwards. The agreements include provisions for a five-year extension by mutual consent. These supply arrangements are expected to significantly bolster India’s fertiliser security and support agricultural productivity.

Earlier, the Indian delegation visited key phosphate production facilities in Ras Al-Khair to observe Saudi Arabia’s fertiliser manufacturing capabilities. The visit was also an opportunity to engage with local leadership and experts on production and export processes.

According to the source, India is one of the primary destinations for Saudi fertiliser exports. In the 2024–25 fiscal year, India imported 1.9 million metric tonnes of DAP fertiliser from the Kingdom – an increase of 17 per cent over the previous year. The newly signed agreements are expected to increase this volume significantly from 2025–26 onwards.
