Jimma’s progress embodies Ethiopia’s commitment to sustainable growth – DPM

Addis Ababa, June 18, 2025 (FMC) – Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh has commended the progress of development initiatives in Jimma Zone during his current visit to the area, where he also opened the 6th National All Ethiopia Games.

During his stay, the Deputy Prime Minister toured key rural and urban corridor developments, including the renovation of the historic Abba Jifar Palace and the “Dine for Generation” initiative.

He also visited agricultural areas in Mana and Seka Chekorsa woredas, where efforts to boost the production of coffee, tea, honey, and other crops have shown notable success.

Mr. Temesgen pointed out that these development activities not only preserve Jimma’s rich cultural heritage but also provide practical and replicable models of progress for other parts of the country.

He praised the rural corridor work in Mana Woreda as particularly exemplary, describing it as an action-oriented initiative that embodies Ethiopia’s commitment to sustainable growth.

In Seka Chekorsa, the Deputy Prime Minister observed the expansion of tea plantations and participated in a community tree-planting campaign aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and agricultural productivity. He stressed the importance of fostering a culture of hard work and mutual support among agricultural communities nationwide.

The visit also included the official inauguration of the 6th National All Ethiopia Games. In his messages, Mr. Temesgen acknowledged Jimma’s historic role as the land of Abba Jifar and its status as a symbol of national unity and cultural richness. He expressed appreciation for the warm welcome extended by federal and regional officials as well as the people of Jimma.

Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen’s visit underscored the visible outcomes of Ethiopia’s development agenda and reinforced the spirit of unity celebrated through the national sports event.
