Land Policy Leaders Across Africa to Convene in Addis Ababa Starting Tomorrow

Addis Ababa, November 9, 2025 (FMC) — Africa’s premier land policy gathering, the Sixth African Land Policy Conference (CLPA2025), is set to kick off tomorrow at the United Nations Conference Centre in Addis Ababa.

The event will bring together policymakers, researchers, civil society representatives, and traditional authorities to discuss land governance, justice, and reparations for Africans and descendants of the African diaspora.

Organized jointly by the African Union Commission (AUC), the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), the four-day event will be held in a hybrid format, allowing both in-person and online participation. The conference will focus on advancing sustainable land management policies and addressing the historical legacy of colonial land dispossession that continues to affect access and ownership across the continent.

Delegates are expected to examine emerging best practices in land policy, strengthen transparency in land governance institutions, and improve data monitoring and evaluation mechanisms. Cross-cutting topics including youth, gender, climate change, agriculture, and reparations will also be central to discussions.

Organizers say the conference will highlight the enduring impact of colonial-era land seizures, which concentrated fertile land and natural resources in the hands of colonizers’ descendants, while historically marginalized communities struggle to gain equitable access. Addressing these disparities, they argue, is essential for food security, sustainable livelihoods, and the preservation of indigenous knowledge systems.

CLPA2025 continues to serve as a leading platform for dialogue on land governance across Africa. Stakeholders and participants have been urged to register ahead of the event, and submissions of research and short stories on the conference theme were accepted until October 20, 2025.
