Luxury mall for elite global brands under construction in Addis Ababa’s historic core

Addis Ababa, June 18, 2025 (FMC) — Addis Ababa is undertaking the construction of a landmark luxury shopping and lifestyle center designed to host elite global designer brands, marking a significant milestone in Ethiopia’s urban and economic transformation.

The Arada Luxury Mall, located in the city’s recently revitalized Piazza area, is progressing steadily toward completion.

During an inspection visit, Mayor Adanech Abiebie highlighted the importance of this project in enhancing the city’s international profile.

“Addis Ababa is evolving rapidly — from its cleanliness and aesthetic improvements to its expanding infrastructure — establishing itself as a major diplomatic and cultural hub for Africa,” Mayor Adanech noted.

She emphasized that the mall represents a unique opportunity to transform Addis Ababa’s economic landscape by attracting international brands and providing residents access to world-renowned designer products locally.

“This development will reduce the need for Ethiopians to travel abroad, such as to Dubai, to purchase luxury and designer goods,” she said.

The Arada Luxury Mall is being constructed on a two-hectare site and will combine upscale retail outlets with entertainment venues, ample parking facilities, and modern infrastructure.

Mayor Adanech also underscored ongoing coordination among city agencies to ensure the project’s timely completion with a focus on high-quality standards.

Once finished, the mall is expected to elevate Addis Ababa’s status as a premier African capital offering luxury shopping experiences on par with global cities.
