Addis Ababa, March 12, 2026 (FMC) — The National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) today held discussions with competitive political parties on the situation in polling areas ahead of the country’s upcoming seventh general election.
During the meeting, NEBE Chairperson Melatwork Hailu said the Board is working to ensure that relevant government institutions address the issues it has identified and take the necessary corrective measures.

She also confirmed that a monitoring and oversight committee comprising representatives of political parties and civil society organizations will be established in areas previously identified by the competitive political parties and formally reported to the Board.
Melatwork further briefed participants on voter mobilization efforts in some areas, the work being carried out by election officials, and the broader political environment surrounding the electoral process.
Earlier, the Board convened a meeting attended by regional state presidents, city mayors, heads of federal and regional institutions, political parties, and representatives of civil society organizations, during which information on polling area conditions was presented and discussed using classifications of green, yellow, and red categories.
